Weather’s been pretty inconsistent lately in Vancouver but I’ve managed to pulled a quick shoot from the only dry day of the whole week. Pretty excited when I was told and commissioned to have this shoot done. It’s not my first time shooting super cars but these cars just gets my heart pumping every time. Please stay tuned for Part 2!

Lansdowne Carnival

Just asked a friend to tag along for some photos in Richmond. Testing some new gears out! Remembered coming here last year, but it was a lot more warmer this spring. The carnival is something we have here every spring break. I don’t find the rides too exciting, but then again I am not a big fan of them anyway. Just there to take some shots for fun haha

Maserati Gran Turismo. Soul of a Ferrari.

I don’t normally post pics of stock cars, but this car deserves it’s place. With pure italian design and styling, the Maserati Gran Turismo is just not your typical car. In fact, the car would line up nicely along with the Alfa Romeo 8C. I just wish to do a proper shoot on one of those (saw them on track day before, those 8Cs just makes you droool too) Anyway, enough talk. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Behind the scene “White Flame” MWDesign shoot

I don’t usually post behind the scene shots, mainly because I don’t find them interesting enough to show. However, this is one of my first time shooting cars in an indoor studio. Thanks again Whitebox Studios.

A lot of people asked me how I got the car so shinny, and believe it or not, a white car in a white studio is usually the easiest to shoot, but for me it was a challenge. I didn’t want to do the typical photoshoot. If I light the car pointing the light straight at it, it would look bland and flat. Instead, I made use of the white walls around the studio, and pointing the lights at them so it reflects off a bigger surface area. By doing that, it creates a big soft box effect that allows the car to look more reflective and appealing.

Another E89 Z4 project from MWDesign

This is my third time shooting for MWDesign. This time they are going for a white on white theme. In contrast of the first z4, this z4 is the direct opposite in colors. My goal of shooting this car was to bring out contrast and reflections, and the results are exactly what I was aiming for. I didn’t want to be too conservative so I light the car like how I light black cars.

Thanks again for Mike and Lewis at MWDesign, and whitebox studio for renting the place to us.

Chinese New Year Update

Happy chinese new year everyone! Haven’t update my blog for a while. I’ve been working 1 day less each week and I still managed to fill up all my time with shoot scouting and planning. To makes things worse, I’ve been quite sick, feeling better and then got sick again. I counted that I’ve been sick for more than 5 times in the past 2 months. Been through headache, stomachache, diarrhea, sneezing, and what not. Keep checking the blog though because I have 4 photoshoots planned for the next 2 weeks. I’m pretty excited and will update when I get the time.

Excuse my grammar. My English isn’t very polished and I’m typing this at 3 in the morning on my phone.

Quick shot during my trip to Leavenworth back in late Dec, 2010. Was driving up the mountains and saw this. Jumped right out of the car to take the shot while everyone in the car were sleeping haha.

Just a quick shot. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Start of a New Year

Happy New Year guys! I’ve been out of town again for New Years to Abbotsford, BC. Saw this amazing sunset on new years. I must say it’s been the BEST (yes the BEST) sunset I’ve ever taken a shot off. Too bad it’s not shot at the most amazing location, but regardless it was just nice watching it.

I know 2010 has been a great year, and a rough one to some, but all in all, thank you for all your support and Matt Kwok photography will continue to strive for the best and deliver the highest quality possible. A few shoots are on the way already so please come back and be updated! Visit my Facebook page if you haven’t already!

Curtis Choi’s 2008 VW Golf GTI (updated Jan 18, 2011)

Curtis just messaged me one day and asked me to do a shoot for him. Vancouver’s winter weather is never good and I was planning to postpone it to January, but i accepted and went to shoot it on my day off from work. The car looks great. An untrained pair of eyes could not tell this car has been undergone some modifications. A Revo stage 1 tune with an intake for the mighty 2.0 FSI engine is plenty enough for Curtis himself to get around town. Nothing too crazy and a great prevention from all the popo heat.
